How to keep motivated

The one problem that mostly everyone has with exercise is that it really isn't that fun. The best comparison to exercise would probably be studying, its boring and tedious and you only get to see the results a month later. Fortunately, today your going to get great tips on how to keep motivated and even have some fun while doing your daily exercise!

Progress Pictures
Lets be honest, the reason most of us are doing exercise is to shed those few pounds we gained over the weekend or during that big holiday season. A great way to keep yourself motivated is to take weekly progress pictures. This will keep you motivated as you get to see the transformation of your body week by week. The Biggest Loser TV show employs this tactic but with scales instead. Knowing that all your hard work is paying off is the best motivation you could possibly receive.

Friends
Its true that to get the best results out of your workouts its better to work alone but its also a sure way to lose the will to exercise. Having a run, bike or walk with a friend can really help your will to exercise. It also helps to improve your social life and your self esteem which all matters while losing weight. Exercising with a friend could also induce a little bit of friendly competition which is always a great way to motivate yourself to push yourself to your limits.

Music
Working out to some great workout music is always a motivating factor in anyone's exercise plan. Grab any song from the Rocky series and you could be pushing yourself as hard as Rocky did when running through the city. Music is great for all exercise but its important to grab the right songs for the right exercise. You're going to want something fast paced while running, something heavy while lifting those weights and something with a lot of beat to it when doing aerobic workouts.

4 Nutrition Tips

Proper nutrition will aid greatly in mainting your healthy diet. Here are some tips for you,

1. Smaller Portion Size
By eating smaller meals, you will have less clorie and fat intake. It also gives you more energy to burn your excess fat by providing more protein, which in turn, will increase your metobolism and help you burn fat more faster.

2. Eat Slowly
By eating slowly, it will inform our brain to tell the body that it is full thereby resulting in less food taken.

3. Eat Less Sugar
Sugary food or drinks do not offer much in the way of nutrition. Especially, sugar contained in drinks like juices, soda and coffee creamers can do significant damage in your diet plan. When sugar cravings hit, reach for fruit or water instead. Stocking up on food like nuts, seeds and dried fruits can also help.

4. Do Not Skip Meals
While weight loss can be relevant to how much calorie intake you consume and so people would be tempted to just skip meals to achive their desired calorie intake, this would potentially provide counterproductive effect to your diet plan as your blood sugar will not maintain its balanced level.

Running is the best exercise for losing weight

Running, its really not fun but we all know how much of a sweat it produces when we try it. Running is the best exercise you could possibly do when you are on a diet. Running is based on burning calories rather than cutting them, which means your burning off fat rather than transforming it into big biceps.

The greatest thing about running is that even in any busy schedule there really is always a time for a run. Even a quick 15 minute run could benefit your health and your weight loss journey in the short and long term. The fact that the only equipment you need are shoes and comfortable clothes is also great, who doesn't have these?

The benefits of running for your health are really very clear to see. During a session your lungs become more efficient at using oxygen, your heart becomes more efficient at pumping blood and your muscles gain strength and endurance. However make sure to stretch your legs before you start a run as your joins in your legs (knees, ankle) are very sensitive and the slightest off balance could do damage that could keep you off the tracks for months.

With all this in mind I hope your already in your joggers getting ready for a run!

You will never want to eat at McDonald's again!!

McDonald's 4year old Cheeseburger
Julia Havey is an Obesity Activist she has written the book Vise busting diet and Awaken the diet within. This video is to emphasise the importance on the fast food dangers. Does fast food ever age? Well before this video you would definitely hope so, but after seeing this you realise the potential damage and danger it has to your health. So dieters I assure you once you've seen this you will think twice about eating fatty foods again. You will see the 4 yr old cheeseburger look exactly the same as a new one, the only difference was that the bun was falling apart, but the meat looked perfect, it had not been preserved it was kept in a normal McDonalds bag and there was no visible aging in the meat. She then shows the difference to a french fries 4 yrs old and normal potato fries that are 3months old. The 3months old one had deteriorated and the McDonald's french fries which had been kept for 4 years was still greasy and salty. Hope this gives you an insight towards the fast food industries. Remember real food breaks down, if it doesn't break down where does it go in your body? It just stores fat? Have a look at the link and decide for yourself. =)

The psychology of dieting

There are many aspects of dieting that lead us to believe that if we starve ourselves we will get the body we always wanted. Unfortunately It has been found that although most people diet so that they can get more out of life, this act of deprivation only serves to make life less enjoyable. This in many cases leads most diets to fail, or leads people to what is known as 'yo-yo dieting' where they continually start and stop diets due to cravings and temptation.

The psychology of the diet needs to be understood before steps can be taken to ensure its success.

The body is designed to store as much food as possible. This is a throwback to days before reliable agriculture and husbandry where human beings weren't always assured a meal each day, so the body became very efficient at storing food for the bad days as fat. This means that simply eating less wont yield results as your body quickly adjusts to its new intake and will continue to store food.

Looking for instant results is another pitfall. This is because we live in a society where everything needs to happen now. Biological processes however are not so punctual. A process like weight loss takes time for your body to change, rapid weight loss can result in damage to kidneys and the liver so if one wishes to lose weight then they need to understand this needs to be a long term commitment, after all, you wish to keep your new figure for the rest of your life, that means that your plan needs to be incorporated into the rest of your life.

Finally most people enter a diet with an 'all or nothing' attitude. This is commendable as it takes courage to make such a change, but this is also a pitfall. An all or nothing approach makes no room for the occasional indulgence. As a result when an opportunity does come along to enjoy a dessert or snack, either one does not eat it and therefore denying themselves the enjoyment, or they devour it, then feel pangs of regret as they see it as some kind of failure. This can be no further from the truth. One of the things that needs to be realised is that even people who lead healthy active lives splurge occasionally, it is the spice of life and in no way reflects failure. Only when the occasional snack or dessert becomes a norm that it becomes a problem.

Hopefully these insights will help you when considering the psychology of dieting! enjoy!

Gravy toppings- Topping gravy all over your meat will enhance the flavour, but the amount of increased calories it adds towards your body, you should definitely give it a miss!!

Candied sweet potatoes- Sweet potatoes are a very nutritious vegetable, but by adding brown sugar to sweeten the taste to it will give you extra calories that you can avoid.

Exercises that won't help you lose weight

When we are in a position in which we want to lose weight we naturally want to lose it as quickly as possible. This method of thinking forces us to jump to the exercises that we feel give us the biggest burn and the ones that we see in those promotional videos selling various equipment. What we don't realises is that some of these exercises don't in fact speed the weight loss journey but really do nothing to help the journey.

Sit-ups
This is the most commonly used exercise at home. After a while it gives you a great burning feeling in your abdomen area fooling you into thinking your doing yourself a big favour. What you don't realise is that yes even though you are getting a great burning sensation it isn't helping you to lose weight. Sit-ups will strengthen and tone your abdomen but it will not burn off fat. Sit-ups also have negative affects on your spine due to the constant and quick arching of your back.
Tricep dips
Once again a similar problem as the sit-up exercises, this exercise will strengthen and tone your triceps but not help you lose weight faster. This is a great workout however to balance any bicep workouts you may be doing.

With these two exercise in mind you can really come to a conclusion that most exercises that involve weights or stressing your muscles won't be so effective in helping you to lose weight.

Five tips to manage your diet

1. Making healthy lifestyle changes is a great way to keep your diet on track. It is a lot more difficult to keep eating healthy when you are not active, or your lifestyle leaves no time for anything other than fast food choices.

2. Put a stop to emotional eating. This is a common pitfall for many people as dieting can sometimes leave a person feeling drained and even depressed. For some people eating 'comfort foods' helps to alleviate that feeling, but hinders any progress in your diet creating a vicious circle.

3. Seek support of friends. Things are always easier when you are supported by peers. Finding someone to exercise with, or someone who can provide positive reinforcement will go a long way to maintaining your morale and maximising your results.

4. Slow and steady wins the race. Dieters want results, and its easy to believe that if you make a massive effort initially that you will see immediate change. This is not the case. You need to give your body time to adapt, as it was months or years of bad habits that created the need to diet, the solution may take just as long.

5. Use tools that help you track your progress. Mobile devices and even gaming consoles have a myriad of healthy lifestyle apps and games that can assist you. It is always beneficial to track your progress, and game software like Wii Fit, for example, can help you see results from your efforts.

Fruits Nutrition Facts

Fruits and vegetables are not only delicious but healthy as well. They contain essential vitamins and minerals that are an important part of a balanced daily diet. Fiber, phytochemicals, antioxidants from fruits and vegetables protect against life threatening diseases like cancer, heart diseases, stroke and diabetes. But, remember, no one food will contain all these essential nutrients. That is why it is very important to include a variety of both vegetables and fruits in your daily diet!

Today, we are going to have a look at our fruits and see what they offer in terms of nutrition facts and benefits for our health and diet,

Apples
Apples are a perfect addition to your weight-loss plan for a number of reasons. Apples are low in calories and fat, low in sodium, and contain vitamins and minerals as well as fibre. These can all help you lose weight in different ways. The fibre helps you feel full longer because it expands in your stomach so it takes less food to satisfy your hunger. Low-sodium will help prevent excess water weight or retention. And, the vitamins benefit you by increasing health and vitality.

Orange
Orange contains high amount of Vitamin C, which helps in absorbing calcium into the body and maintaining the health of teeth and bones. It is also a good source of dietary Fibre. The nutritional value of orange makes it good for indigestion, constipation, bowel disorders and dental care.

Kiwi
Kiwis contain more Vitamin C than organges. They also contain high amounts of dietary fibre which makes it good for controlling blood sugar, colon and cardiovascular problems. Kiwi is made up of 83% of water and hence contains about 61 calories per 100g only.

Grape
Resveratrol, an antioxidant found in grapes may help to lower the risk of developing blood clots and also reduces high blood pressure. Grapes are very effective in overcoming constipation as well. They are considered as a laxative food, as they contain organic acid, sugar and cellulose.

 Banana
Bananas are an excellent source of Vitamin B. Banana contains about 90 to 93 calories per 100g. Bananas are ideal for people looking to lose or maintain weight through sound nutrition. Bananas offer an amazing fat-free package of natural energy, minerals, vitamins and fibre. Researchers also state that eating bananas regularly may play a stronger role in the control of high blood pressure than restricting salt.

Avocado
Avocadoes stuff a tremendous amount of nutrients into a small package. They are loaded with dietary fibre, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Potassium (60% more than Bananas!), Magnesium and Folate. One thing to note though is that avocadoes are a somewhat fatty fruit and was once regarded as 'dieter's nightmare'. However, recent scientific research [Source] has discovered that avocadoes are actually loaded with "good" monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These types of fat, while still relatively high in calories, actually help lower cholesterol levels and decrease the risk of heart disease.

Government initiatives to help you make a plan and stick to it

There have been many government initiatives in Australia over the years encouraging people to lose weight and remain active. The 'Life be in it' initiative that was prevalent in the 1970's was one of the first and has helped many people get advice and help with combating our increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Although funding for this particular initiative stopped in the early 1980's the life be in it website is still active and can be found here. Since then the Australian government has continued providing assistance and advice for those wishing to become and stay more fit.

The current initiative is advertised on TV, radio and the Internet and is called 'Swap it, Dont stop it!' The website which can be found here provides information on how you can reduce your caloric intake and increase your physical activity without having to give up the things you enjoy. It is a good idea as most people assume losing weight involves a massive change in eating habits and lifestyle. This initiative helps take a more measured approach and shows that you can still succeed in your weight loss goals without changing your entire lifestyle.

The best thing about this initiative is that mobile devices can now be used to assist you with your goals. The website provides a link to an iPhone application that allows you track your progress. There is also a facebook page that you can subscribe to allowing you to follow updates and even contact other like minded users. So get out there, and Swap it, Dont stop it!

Simple exercises you can do in the comfort of your own home

Walking
Walking really is underestimated as an exercise. If the weather is nice outside you can go for a walk around your local park and even if the weather doesn't agree with you you could always stroll around your house, maybe even carry heavy items while walking or even walk up and down a flight of stairs. This will help to tone your legs and give you a nice aerobic workout.

Jumping Jacks
Jumping jacks is also an underestimated exercise but give it a go now for at least a minute and I guarantee you'll start to feel a sweat coming on. Jumping jacks is a really fun exercise that is a great cardio workout. It works well as a warm up to more strenuous exercises.

Dancing

Why nutrition is important for a healthy diet?

What is the healthiest way to lose weight? That sounds like the million dollar question. Perhaps, a nutritious balanced diet plus regular exercise might be the answer, although many people who are on their diet plan seem overly obsessed with counting their calorie intake that they end up with a diet that is lacking important nutritional elements.

Remember, we are talking about a healthy diet plan. Do not forget that losing weight should not compromise your body's health. So, the first step you should take when trying to lose weight is to know thoroughly about the nutritional content your foods contain.

Here's the first tip. Whenever possible, eat whole, fresh and unprocessed foods. It seems many folks think that eating a can of vegetable soup or drinking fruit juices is as nutritious as downing a plateful of veggies. This is one of the most common nutrition misconceptions. Take fruit juice for instance. They may be healthier than coke, but they are also concentrated sources of sugar that won't give you anywhere near the same level of nutrients you get from whole fruits.
